Dr Paul T Francis completed MD (Community Medicine) from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 1995. He worked as Asst. Professor in Community Medicine for 4 years. He joined National Polio Surveillance Project-India (WHO), as Surveillance Medical Officer in 1999. As SMO, he was responsible for AFP (Acute Flaccid Paralysis) surveillance of 3 districts of Madhya Pradesh for 2 years and 5 districts of central Kerala for 3 years. He then worked as State Surveillance Medical Officer in Trivandrum, Kerala for a brief period before joining WRO as NPO-Epidemiology.
During his tenure as SMO he achieved certification quality surveillance in his districts. He also worked on short term assignments to different districts of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh to assist in Planning, Training, Implementing and Monitoring of Supplementary Immunisation Activities (SIA).
He interests are Disease surveillance, Infectious diseases control, Outbreak investigation and Capacity building. . E-mail: francispt@searo.who.int
