Dr. Cherian Varghese
is the Cluster Focal Point for Non Communicable Diseases and Mental Health.
The areas covered include NCD surveillance, Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases,
Diabetes Mellitus, other NCDs, Health Promotion, Blindness, Deafness, Injury
prevention, Rehabilitation, Mental health and Substance abuse. Dr Varghese
has an MD in Radiation Oncology and M Phil. (Cambridge,
UK) and PhD (Tampere, Finland)
in Epidemiology. He has over 50 publications in indexed journals on cancer
and health systems. Before joining WHO India in 2001, Dr Varghese has worked
in the Regional Cancer Centre, Trivandrum
and the University of Leeds, UK.
