Dr Fraser Wares is at the Office of the WHO
Representative to India
since
January 2002. Dr Wares has been providing technical assistance to the
Government of India for the implementation of the Revised National TB Control
Programme in the country. Dr Wares is also the technical focal point for the
USAID-funded WHO Collaborative Model DOTS Project, being implemented in
conjunction with the Tuberculosis Research Centre, ICMR, Chennai and the
Government of Tamil Nadu.
Prior to joining WHO in India, Dr Wares had worked for
over 10 years in the international non-governmental organization sector,
primarily on TB control activities, in a range of countries, and had
undertaken a number of short term TB-related assignments for WHO Regional
Offices in the Eastern Mediterranean, South-East Asia and Western Pacific.
Dr Wares
holds a Medical Doctor degree from Manchester University,
UK, and a Masters
Degree in Public Health from the School
of Public Health, University of Liverpool, UK.
