Dr Paul Francis joined WHO in 1997 as
Regional Coordinator of the National Polio Surveillance Project, where he coordinated
polio eradication activities in the western region of India. In
2000 he moved to New Delhi
as the National Surveillance Coordinator for the project.
Dr
Francis was relocated to the WHO India Country Office in 2003 as a National
Professional Officer (Medical Epidemiology) in Immunization and Vaccine
Development. His current responsibilities include providing technical
assistance and support to the national government in EPI with a focus on
vaccine regulation and security and introduction of new vaccines. In addition
to the above he also coordinates WHO activities for the Norway India
Partnership Initiative (towards accelerating MDG 4 & 5 Goals), Maternal
and Neonatal Tetanus Elimination and Patient Safety initiatives.
Prior to joining
WHO, he has worked in various organizations and institutions in academics and
health administration.
Following
his graduation from Christian Medical College, Vellore,
India, (MBBS, 1982), Dr Francis completed his post graduation in Child Health
(DCH, 1989) and masters in Paediatric Medicine (MD, 1991) from the same
college. He has also received advanced training in vaccinology
and clinical trials.
