Piloting Adolescent Friendly Health Services
WHO supported development of
adolescent friendly health centers (AFHCs) in the
country to demonstrate feasibility and generate local experience. In all,
fourteen such AFHCs were supported, many of which
have been sustained beyond the project phase with the government support and
institution’s own efforts and continue to provide friendly health services to
the adolescents. In the process a sustained advocacy on the importance of
adolescent health was realized and this encouraged scaling up of adolescent
friendly health services in the country.
Safdarjung Hospital Adolescent
Healthcare Network (SHAHN) at New Delhi was the first initiative in this
series. Their ‘End of term’ report describes the process of implementation
and lessons learnt .
