Workshop on Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness: Safdarjang Hospital,
New Delhi
14-18 September 2005

The Indian
Academy of Pediatrics in
collaboration with UNICEF-India and WHO-India organized a regional Training
of Trainers’ Workshops on IMNCI at Safdarjang
Hospital, New Delhi from 14 –18 September 2005 for
Pediatricians from the Faculty of Private Medical Colleges and those in
private practice.
Dr. Salim J. Habayeb, WHO Representative
inaugurated the workshop on the 14th September in the presence of Dr. Raju C.
Shah, National President IAP, Dr. K Suresh, PO-Health, UNICEF India and Dr.
R. N. Salhan, Additional DGHS and Medical superintendent of the host
institution. A total of eighteen Pediatricians from the states of Punjab,
Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi
were trained in this workshop. This workshop was the first one in a series of
six to be organized at Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow and Ranchi.
These trained Pediatricians would add to the
pool of trainers in the districts and also be in a position to provide a
venue for IMNCI training at their hospitals / nursing homes. Additionally,
they would also provide referral care to sick children with severe IMNCI
classifications.
