Introduction
Origin of the proposal,
technical programme which is sponsoring, reasons
for proposed designation
Around
1986, the Basic Dental Research Unit at the TIFR was designated as a WHO
Collaborating Centre for Oral Cancer Prevention. Designation was renewed in
1992.
Steps that have led to this
proposal, eg site-visits by WHO staff, previous
participation of the institution, joint development of a workplan, etc.
Over
the years the emphasis in research has shifted towards tobacco rather than
only oral cancer prevention.
