In the
year 1995, the Centre worked with WHO on
production of materials for communication through media. In 1996-97 the
Directorate of the Board served on the Global Advisory Board for the
preparation of the 4th International Conference on Health Promotion.
Earlier, the centre had undertaken the assessment of access to water and
toilet facilities in selected schools in a nation wide survey.

Comments & Composition of
the Institute
|
Originally
started as a Unit of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting,
Government of India, it later became an atonomous
institution in the year 1966 under the Min. of I&B.
The Society is reconstituted every two years.

Organize
training research of mass communication, provide training to the
information and publicity personnel of Centre and State Govewrnments;
arrange lectures, seminars and symphosia on
problems connected with mass communication, organise
refresher courses, summer schools and the like, to print, publish and
exhibit any magazine, periodical, monograph or poster that may be
considered desirable for the promotion of the objects of the Society, to
assist and associate itself with efforts of other academic bodies,
government or non-governmental for the furtherance of the objects of the
Society.

1).
Sharpen the contributions made by health communications in health education
and promotion in attaining Health for All through the PHC approach,
2). Enhance the capabilities of the media and health sectors in planning
health communications strategies, and in implementing monitoring and
evaluation such activities in the Region,
3). Stimulate the development of more creative and innovative approaches in
health communications, appropriate for the Region.
