The WHO CC has been doing excellent work in the nuclear medicine and is the only one of its kind in the country. It has indiginized most the technologies and is manufacturing radio pharmaceuticals. 

Steps that have led to this proposal, eg site-visits by WHO staff, previous participation of the institution, joint development of a workplan, etc.

Comments & Composition of the Institute

Babha Atomic Research Centre is under the Department of Atomic Energy of the Government of India. 

Statutory functions of the institution ; formal links with other institutions

Radiopharmacy, In vivo Nuclear Medicine Procedures, Clinical Nuclear Medicine, Medical Physics and computer applications, in vitro thyroid function studies, experimental thyroid physiology, thyroid tissue culture, Receptors and thyroid functions, immunodiagnosis of tuberculosis, bone mineral metabolism and and anil house services, free radical biochemistry, molecular biology and biological dosimentry of thyroid.

Terms of Reference

To assist WHO in the promotion and improvement of General Nuclear Medicine :

· The collection and provision of information on the optimized use of appropriate equipment and application of new techniques in General Nuclear Medicine alone or in combination with other diagnostic imaging methods,

· The promotion of uniform procedures for the preparation and selection of most adequate Radiopharmacueticals and their quality control,

· The issuing and distribution through WHO, of recommendations, manuals or codes of practice and the giving of advice on request to individual institutions for nuclear medicine on the organization of nuclear medicine facilities; radiation protection measures for staff, patients and the public,

· Providing training and education in nuclear medicine for international fellows (Physicians, Scientists, Radiological Technicians), on selected topics as required and requested, and,

· Establishing and maintaining contacts and working relations with national and international non-governmental organizations involved in radiation medicine tasks; other WHO Collaborating Centres for Nuclear Medicine and WHO Collaborating Institutions; other institutions as required and requested.
