WHO
has had long term association with L.V. Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) both
at the global and regional levels. The Director of
the Institute is the Secretary General of International Agency for
prevention of Blindness (IAPB). WHO has close links with IAPB.

Steps that have led to this
proposal, eg site-visits by WHO staff, previous
participation of the institution, joint development of a workplan, etc.
|
LVPEI
is active in various areas of research including epidemiological field
based and clinical research. WHO, of late has entered into a Technical
Service Agreement with LVPEI for Refractive Errors Study in Children in
Southern India.

Terms of Reference
|
a. To
train eye care professionals covering ophthalmologists,
allied health personnel, managerial/administrative personnel and community
eye health personnel from all parts of the world. This will include both
training of individuals in the above categories at LVPEI as well as LVPEI
helping to develop similar programmes in other
parts of the world.
b. To conduct research into understanding of both eye problems as well as
eye care delivery systems through established research methods. This will
be both at LVPEI as well as helping WHO in conducting studies in other
parts of the world.
c. To collaborate in developing appropriate models of eye care delivery
that will fulfil the goal of VISION 2020 programme in developing a framework for sustainable
high quality eye care in the most undeserved areas of the world.
