The Centre has been redesignated vide RD's letter no. H9/72/1-IND dated 03 July 2006 

 

 

Introduction

 

Origin of the proposal, technical programme which is sponsoring, reasons for proposed designation

This Centre was originally designated as a Research Centre in Reproductive Health, in the year 1972. 

Steps that have led to this proposal, eg site-visits by WHO staff, previous participation of the institution, joint development of a workplan, etc.

Visit of RHR, SRP and the successful completion previously assigned workplan and TOR by this Institute have led to the continuation.

This Institute is the research wing of ICMR located in Mumbai and is governed by the regulations of ICMR.

Statutory functions are related to the ICMR, which is the apex institution in the country for medical research.

Terms of Reference


. To collaborate with WHO for promoting and conducting biomedical, clinical, operational and socio-behavioural research on nationally relevant aspects of reproductive health that includes maternal and child health; fertility regulation, infertility, reproductive tract infections including sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS; adolescent sexual and reproductive health and menopause

. To promote evidence led care through adaptation and dissemination of evidence based tools and guidelines for reproductive health

. To strengthen research capacities by way of staff training and development and training of scientists from other institutions from within and outside the country

. Interdisciplinary research and use of research results for evidence based policy making, planning and programming

. Collaborate with national and international organizations to promote research and research capacity strengthening in reproductive health
