Terms of Reference

The Child and Adolescent Health (CAH) unit of the Department of Health Systems and Community Health (CHS) will be the focal point in SEARO for the NICED collaborating activities.

As one of the objectives of CAH is to provide technical support to countries to reduce morbidity/mortality due to diarrhoea among other diseases in the group of children under five years of age, the following TOR are proposed to be carried out by the NICED during the next four years.

· Collaboration on applied and basic research on regional priority areas and assistance in conducting operational research to determine strategies to overcome the constraints in the implementation of the diarrhoeal disease control programme.

· Supply of diagnostic antisera, especially against Vibrio Cholerae 01 and 0139 as and when required by member countries,

· Preparation of training modules and methodologies and provision of training to health personnel in relation to diarrhoeal disease control programme;

· Training of inter-country fellows in state-of-art methods, especially in relation to laboratory diagnosis, study of emerging and re-emerging pathogens and molecular epidemiology;

· Organization of seminars and workshops on issues of national and international importance in the area of diarrhoeal diseases,

· To provide advisory services and technical assistance to SEAR countries as and when required for enhancement of diarrhoeal disease control activities,

· To provide an annual report on WHO collaborative activities undertaken and also provide to WHO reports of any investigations carried out in connection with diarrhoeal disease outbreaks.
