College
of Nursing, PGIMER was established in 1964 with WHO assistance to implement
the Post-basic BSc Nursing programme.
This has recently been upgraded to be National Institute of Nursing
Education.

proposal, eg site-visits by WHO staff, previous
participation of the institution, joint development of a workplan, etc.

College
of Nursing, PGIMER has been effectively collaborated with WHO/SEARO in the
past few biennia in providing advanced training for nurses in India, i.e.,
for 3 month short course training.

Comments & Composition of
the Institute
|
The
National Institute of Nursing Education, (NINE) is a part of PGIMER for its
administration, clinical experiences and for day to day functioning. It is
well supported by PGIMER. it is also affiliated
with Punjab University for academic purpose. It has ample nursing
expertise, as out of 22 qualified teaching staff, nine hold PhD and ten are
master prepared.

offers BSc Nursing (4 years), BSC Nursing
(post-basic), M.Sc in
Community Health Nursing and M.Sc. in Medical
Surgical Nursing. it also organizes short term
training programmes sponsored by the Ministry of
Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi and World Health Organization. In
addition, workshops and seminars are organized by the institute as per the demand.Nine staff also collaborate in projects
undertaken by the Indian Nursing Council, MoH&FW,
New Delhi.

|
As a WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing and
Midwifery Development, the National Institute of Nursing (College of
Nursing), Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigargh, India will:
1. Serve as a resource center for research and development in nursing and
midwifery for national (northern region of India), regional and
international communities.
2. Serve as resource center for training nurse teachers, clinicians,
researchers and managers on advanced clinical /functional specialties at
national (northern region of India) and Regional levels (as requested).
3. Promote and support the development and implementation of innovations in
nursing and midwifery practice/education to improve quality of care and
education.
4. Promote and support the introduction of innovations in nursing/midwifery
practice and education in formal educational programme
for nursing and midwifery at basic and post basic level.
5. Collect and disseminate information related to advancements in clinical
nursing/midwifery practice and education at the national (northern region
of India), regional and international level.
