1) Arboviruses:
a. To identify and characterize arboviruses
circulated in India and countries of the Region,
b. To maintain collection of different viruses and provide prototype
strains,
c. To produce diagnostic reagents for dengue and JE infections,
d. To train virologists for isolation, cultivation and characterization of arboviruses,
e. To provide assistance and laboratory support during outbreak
investigation and epidemics associated with arboviruses
infections.
2). Rapid Diagnosis of Viral Diseases
a. To standardize technology for production of diagnostic reagents for
viral diseases in close collaboration with other WHO CCs,
b. To undertake quality control tests of kits used for laboratory diagnosis
of viral infections in India,
c. To provide training to laboratory workers for development and production
of diagnostic kits and reagents for viral infections,
d. To continue research for development of rapid cost-effective diagnostic
reagents for viral infections,
e. To continue seroepidemiological studies of
viral infections in India.
3). Others
a. To provide technical and epidemiological information to Who and to other
WHO CCs for Reference and Research on viral diseases,
b. To participate in organization of meetings on viral diseases,
c. To contribute preparation of documents, technical guidelines and review
documents on prevention and control of viral infections.
