The
Centre was originally desinated on 17 January 1997. The centre is active in
research, training and providing consultancy on leprosy elimination.

proposal, eg site-visits by WHO staff, previous participation of the
institution, joint development of a workplan, etc.

Dr
M.D. Gupte, Director of the Centre has been appointed as the Member of the
WHO Technical Advisory Group of the Global Alliance for Leprosy
Elimination. The National Institute of Epidemiology will be the Regional
Centre for training for WHO supported FETP Training Programme.

Terms of Reference
|
To
promote capacity building through training in epidemiology and skill
development in management of leprosy programme for various levels of
medical and paramedical health personnel, particularly in the context of
integration of leprosy with the general health services;
To conduct clinical and operational research on various experts of leprosy,
including drug trials, in collaboration with WHO & other institutions
of ICMR;
To study the prevalence and incidence trends, including trends & patterns
of disability in leprosy and develop tools for monitoring of leprosy
elimination;
To enhance the quality and usefulness of Leprosy Elimination
Monitoring(LEM) through "qualitative Research Methodology";
To network with various institutions involved in epidemiology, research and
training in leprosy elimination;
