Hands-on Training Workshop on Laboratory Diagnosis of Leptospirosis 

 

A fourteen-day ‘Hands-On Training Workshop on Laboratory Diagnosis of Leptospirosis’ was conducted at the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Dollygunj, during 16-29 August 2005.  The workshop was inaugurated by the Shri D. S. Negi, Chief Secretary.

 

In his inaugural address, the Chief Secretary congratulated the Centre for its achievements, which have brought the islands, not only in the national, but also international scientific map.  He also said that, these islands are a great laboratory for various researches, where different epidemic diseases, such as Hepatitis B, Andaman haemorrhage etc periodically break out, and wished the workshop a success in its endeavour.

 

Dr. S. J. Habayeb, WHO Representative to India, attended the inaugural ceremony as the Guest of Honour.  In his address, Dr Habayeb said that RMRC has made an extensive contribution in the diagnosis of neglected diseases and emerging infectious diseases.  At this event, he also released the manual of the workshop.

 

In his welcome address, Dr. S.C. Sehgal, Director, RMRC, Port Blair, highlighted the studies, that have been conducted in the centre.

 

Fifteen participants from the states of Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu attended the workshop.  The inaugural function concluded with a vote of thanks, proposed by Dr. Vijayachari, Scientist, RMRC.
