Regional Workshop on Avian Influenza (AI) Preparedness and Response

Summary of Workshop

A five day Regional Workshop was organized on Avian Influenza (AI) Preparedness and Response, March 5-9, 2007 in New Delhi.

The workshop was organized by HHS/CDC in collaboration with National Institute of Communicable Diseases, and the World Health Organization (WHO).  Faculty included professionals from GOI, WHO, CDC, APHIS/USDA, and UNICEF. Diverse curriculum attempted to attract both veterinary and human health professionals. The overall response and feedback has been overwhelming.

Forty five participants included health and veterinary practitioners from India (7 States), and 19 regional participants (Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) received training.  Participants received up-to-date information and hands on training about preparedness and response for avian and pandemic influenza.  Participants will replicate this training in their respective countries and states with the help of training material provided at the workshop.
