Rapid Response teams in action

During the week under report, the following districts detected the outbreak early and initiated early containment measures:

*      West Kameng District (Arunachal Pradesh): An outbreak of meseals with 200 cases & 14 deaths was notified in the district during the month of August 2002. The disease affected five villages in remote administrative circle of West Kameng district. The affected children were in the age group 1 to 8. The rapid response team of the district investigated the episode and now the disease is under control.

*      Chandigarh (Chandigarh): An outbreak of dengue fever was notified by rapid response team in Indira Colony, Manimajara and surrounding area of Chandigarh. A total of 15 laboratory confirmed cases were notified during the month of October 2002. The RRT investigated the episode and initialised control measures to prevent furthur increase in the cases.

*      Dhule District (Maharashtra): An outbreak of malaria was notified by the district rapid response team  during the 3rd week of  October 2002.   A total of 42 cases were notified  in AnerDamAshram School of  district.
