DISTRICT & STATE: Vaishali, Bihar

 

DATE OF ONSET: Mid-August 2004

LOCATION: Mahua Block

 

Current Situation:

 

As per the information received by the Chief Medical Officer of Vaishali district cases of measles have been reported from the Mahua block of the district since mid-August 2004. the area is a far flung tribal area with poor connectivity which has been the reason for delay in reporting to the authorities. As per the preliminary information, at least 9 child deaths have occurred in the affected area due to post-measles pneumonia. A team of district health officials has been sent to the area with vaccine supply. The final details on the extent of the outbreak are awaited.
