Outbreak Report – Measles in Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh

DISEASE/ SYNDROME: Measles

 

DISTRICT & STATE: Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh

DATE OF ONSET:  Last week of March 2005

LOCATION:  Deendayal Puri in Ghaziabad district

 

Current Situation:

As per the information received from the Chief Medical Officer of Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, 14 cases and 2 deaths (on 08.04.2005 of a 5 year male and 18.04.2005 of a 3 year male from the same family following post-measles respiratory complications) due to measles have occurred in the urban slum of Deendayal Puri in Ghaziabad district since the last week of March 2005. Affected children (cases & deaths) are in the age group of 1-5 years with no immunization history. The episode was investigated by the district RRT. Case detection, clinical management and immunization (of 950 children between 9 months to 5 years age) have been done by the district health authorities. The episode has been investigated by the NICD team on 28.04.2005.

 

Laboratory investigations:

Serum samples have been collected from 5 children and submitted for analysis to the NICD laboratory.
