Current
Situation:
Since 22 April 2005, a total of 700 cases of acute diarrheal disease (and 2 deaths: 40 year male and 45 year
female on 24.04.2005 and 25.04.2005, respectively) occurred in wards 1, 2, 3,
7 and 8 of the Garulia Municipality
of 24-North Parganas district. Probable source of
infection was identified as sewage contamination of the pipeline water
supply. Potable water is being supplied through tankers. Surveillance,
chlorine testing and distribution of chlorine tablets, management of cases,
house-to-house surveys and health education are being carried out.
Laboratory
investigations:
2 stool and 5 water samples have been collected for
laboratory investigations and results are awaited.
