Brief history: Occurrence of cattle death in
the village at the house of a villager and the dead cow was handled by the
affected persons on 20.06.03
Death particulars: 70 yr male died at home on
23.06.03, village Sukhbazar, Bholpur, Birbhum
P.H measures taken: Disposal of dead cow by
the villagers in the dumping ground.
Area visited by the animal resource development
department. A team from School of Tropical Medicine Kolkatta visited the area
and collected samples for laboratory tests. About 500 cattle have been
vaccinated and 10 cattle expired due to anthrax per veterinary investigation.
Health officials of Birbhum visited the area along with an epidemiological
team and are working in the affected village. Treatment given to all
suspected cases. A strict vigilance kept over the situation. 3 more villages:
Jargadanga 6 cases; Tilutia 3 cases; and Beru 5 cases have been affected. The
situation is under control.
