WHO Technical Assistance to HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control in India

National Consultation on the Need and Feasibility of Second line ARV Drugs

The National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) with support from WHO India, convened a national consultation on the need and feasibility of providing second line ARV drugs within the national ART programme. The 2-day consultation brought together a broad range of experts from major partners such as CDC and Clinton Foundation; NGOs such as YRG Care; Freedom Foundation; Medecins Sans Frontieres; Lawyers Collective; INP+; MoH (WTO Cell); ART physicians; laboratory experts; patent law and public health specialists; to discuss technical and operational aspects in relation to the need and feasibility of having second line ARV drugs. Recommendations have been made and a report will be available soon.
