A Joint Monitoring Mission of India’s Revised
National Tuberculosis Control Programme
A Joint Monitoring Mission (JMM) of India’s
Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme has been planned by the Government
of India and WHO from 3 to 17 October 2006.
The Mission
comprises of 40 national and international experts, including existing and
potential partners, donors and with close involvement of the central and
state governments. It will consist of
field visits by smaller teams, followed by consultations and dissemination of
findings with a larger team.
While
reviewing the performance and strategies of the programme, the Mission will take into
consideration (a) convergence approaches under the framework of the National
Rural Health Mission; and (b) the shift from a phase of programme expansion to a phase of quality improvements
while addressing second generation issues such as drug resistance and TB/HIV
interaction.
Dr Samlee Plianbangchang,
Regional Director, WHO-South East Asia Region, chaired the initial briefing
meeting of the JMM and his statement is attached.
