In order to address emerging challenges to
global and national health that result from demographic and epidemiological
transitions and climate change, the WHO country office supported the 52nd
National conference of India Public Health Association organised between 7-9 March 2008 at
Maulana Azad Medical
Collage (MAMC), New Delhi.
The conference coincided with the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the
Institute. The theme for this year was “Excellence in Public
Health: Key to Global Health”. WHO-India had provided technical support
for an exhibition on public health achievements, milestones and supported a
plenary technical session on “Global Climate Change and Impact on Health”.

The conference was inaugurated Mr.Kapil Sibal-Honorable
Union Minister of Science, Technology and Ocean Development, Government of
India (GoI). World Health Representative to India, Dr. Salim.J.Habayeb also addressed the audience. The three
day long deliberation focused on climate change, health outcomes and public
health for adaptation and mitigation.
