World Health Day, 2005

 

Awareness Run to Commemorate the World Health Day 2005 and Safe Motherhood Day

 

11 April 2005

 

Health Fitness Trust organized an Awareness Run to commemorate the World Health Day and Safe Motherhood Day on 11 April 2005 at Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.  The Run was conducted in collaboration with WHO and UNICEF. Over 5000 participants, including mothers with babies, pregnant women and children, took part in the Family Walk and Run along with the staff of various organizations, corporate houses and NGOs.  Also, students of more than 50 schools from Delhi, athletes from the Border Security Force and Central Reserve Police Force participated in the Run.

 

The Run was flagged off by the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Hon. Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, with the Guest of Honour, Hon. Mr Yoganand Shashtri, Minister of Health and Social Welfare, NCT of Delhi and Dr S. J. Habayeb, WHO Representative to India.  T-shirts, posters and certificates, with theme slogans, were distributed to the participants.  Speaking on this occasion, Dr Ramadoss said that by 2010 the Government plans to reduce the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) to below 30 and also bring down the Neonatal Mortality Rate.  Dr Habayeb appreciated the efforts in promoting the cause of safe motherhood and healthy children.

 

The event too aimed to promote awareness about Health in general, and for Mothers and Children in particular, through interesting and creative thematic activities.
