HIV/AIDS: "WE SHALL OVERCOME" - Mr Oscar Fernandes, Minister of State for Statistics & Programme Implementation
Hon. Minister of Health and
Family Welfare, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss;
and Secretary (Health), Sh. J.V.R. Prasada Rao, organized a dinner
on 2 November, 2004, in honour of Dr Peter Piot, Executive Director and Under Secretary-General of
the United Nations. Hon. Minister of State for Health & Family
Welfare, Smt. P. Lakshmi;
Dr S.P. Agarwal, Director General of Health
Services; Dr S.Y. Quraishi, Additional Secretary
(Health) & Project Director of the National AIDS Control Organization
(NACO); Sh. B.P. Sharma, Joint Secretary; Dr S.J. Habayeb, WHO Representative to India; and various
dignitaries, including from the Government of India, UN and Bilateral
Agencies, were present. Mr Oscar Fernandes graced
the occasion by playing "WE SHALL OVERCOME" by Mouth
Organ/Harmonica.
WHO Country Office salutes
Mr Fernandes for his continued efforts and outstanding
leadership in political advocacy in the struggle against HIV/AIDS in India.
