National Cancer Awareness Day 2006
The
National Cancer Awareness Day was observed on the 7th of November,
2006 by the Government of India and WHO India country office. Various
activities (23 with 17 supported by WHO India under the Biennium programme) are being organized in Delhi and in other parts of the country,
which included seminars, public rallies, poster competitions, cancer quiz programmes and other advocacy related events.
In
Delhi, an
event was organized at the national stadium in the presence of the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Family
Welfare, Smt. Panabaka Lakshmi. School children and others participated in a
run, and there were awareness programmes as well.
Cancer survivors also spoke on the occasion. A series of cancer detection
camps were organized in different parts of Delhi to mark the occasion. Public private
partnerships initiatives were undertaken to subsidize screening programmes.
