Workshop on strategies for Health Financing in India –

The need to examine
alternative mechanisms for financing health care services is necessary in the
context of the present fiscal crisis induced limitations in hiking public
investment up to the levels mentioned in National Health Policy 2002. In this
context, the Bureau of Planning, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is organizing a workshop entitled “Strategies for Health
Financing in India” in
collaboration with WHO, New Delhi.
This workshop will be on 15th January, 2004 at the India International
Centre, Lodhi
Road, New Delhi.
Objective of this brainstorming workshop is to review some of the existing
financing strategies like user fees, financing by local bodies etc and also
to discuss the feasibility of new financing strategies like sin tax on
alcohol and tobacco, universal health insurance scheme among the other
issues. Participants would be senior level health administrators, finance
experts, health planners and health economists. The workshop is expected to
give MOHFW, a feedback in formulating alternative strategies for health
financing in the country.
