“WHO Director General’s Special Award”
to Dr. Anbumani
Ramadoss
for outstanding contribution to tobacco control
Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss,
Hon’ble Union Minister
for Health & Family Welfare was conferred the ‘WHO Director General’s
Special Award for Tobacco Control’ on 20th July, 2007 at New Delhi.
This award was presented by Dr. Samlee
Plianbangchang, Regional
Director, WHO-South East Asia, along with a Regional Plaque, to Dr. Ramadoss for his dynamic
leadership and commitment to tobacco control. The measures initiated in
India
under the stewardship of Dr. Ramadoss
have been widely acclaimed at the regional and global levels, and have set
praiseworthy precedents for other countries. The Minister received this
award in the presence of many dignitaries and more than 500 stakeholders from
all over the country, including national and international media.
