WHO/Government of India Collaborative Programme Guidelines for Preparation of Proposals Monitoring & Information on Technical Collaboration
1. WHO Collaborating Centre (WHO/CC)
A WHO collaborating centre (WHO/CC) forms part of the inter-institutional collaborative network set up by WHO in support of its programmes at country, intercountry, regional, interregional and global levels, as appropriate. A WHO collaborating centre must also participate in the strengthening of country resources in terms of information, services, research and training in support of national health development.
Institutions that show the capacity and capability to fulfil a function or functions relevant to the Organization’s programme and objectives, and institutions of high scientific and technical standing that have already attained international recognition, may qualify for designation as a WHO/CC. The designation is made with the agreement of the head of the establishment to which the institution is attached, or with that of the director of the institution, initially for a four-year term, with possibility of renewal for the same or a shorter period if warranted by programme requirements and results of evaluation. It is independent of any financial or other support being given to the institute by WHO. Grants may be given to an institution that is able to perform a specific task connected with WHO’s programme, but this has no relevance to the eligibility or otherwise of that institution for designation as a WHO/CC.
Before considering such designation, the institution must have carried out jointly planned activities and successfully completed at least two years of collaboration with WHO. A WHO/CC may use the WHO emblem along with the name of WHO on its letterhead for correspondence related to the institution’s activities as a collaborating centre. Applications for designation as a CC should be downloaded from WHO India website www.whoindia.org and forwarded to WRO.
