3.4       Fellowships

 

This component is meant to support training facilities both

  • within the country, i.e. in-country fellowships, and

  • overseas

The current trend and emphasis is on in-country fellowships as

  • these are cost-effective, i.e. more fellows can be trained with limited resources;

  • placements and logistics are easier;

  • these strengthen/build up capacity of local institutions;

  • the training is more country-relevant

Funds allocated under Fellowships – both in-country and overseas – cover the cost of travel, subsistence allowance and training charges.  The process involved is explained in Fig. 2.
